The LiftHub Movie Night Week 5 #Watchsquad

It's a beautiful day here in Calabar and it's another poll voting week for the #Watchsquad, the guys who have set themselves apart for their love and passion for the Miracle of a moving frame

So last week we where all at the LiftHub to see the amazing thriller DONT BREATHE which was unexpectedly breathe taking. Deddie if you are reading this, you owe me a cup of Kempy's smoothie for asking me to change the film a minute before it began with the claim "papa they are only thiefing in that film".

It was such a roller coaster and had everyone uh-ing and Ah-ing and people screaming like the monster would literally hear then. Well all that excitement and only 1 review and you expect me to come and ki myself over how you felt... In David's Voice  "The thing off me".

So it's a week dedicated to the magic of making love, boys dying for girl (no wonder there is no naija film on the list) and plenty tears. It's Romance Week guys and the Nominations are in. But.

1 Me Before You (Drama Romance IMDB 7.6 Rotten 🍅 59)

 A girl in a small town forms an unlikely A girl in a small town forms an unlikely bond with a recently-paralyzed man she's taking care of.

Me Before You benefits from Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin's alluring chemistry, although it isn't enough to compensate for its clumsy treatment of a sensitive subject. with a recently-paralyzed man she's taking. Guys this didn't even make 1 million in box office ooo. 

2 The Curious Case Of Benjamin Botton ( 3 Oscar Wins  Drama Fantasy Romance 2008 IMDB 7.5 Rotten 🍅 78)

Tells the story of Benjamin Button, a man who starts aging backwards with bizarre consequences.

Curious Case of Benjamin Button is an epic fantasy tale with rich storytelling backed by fantastic performances. Now that's a bad ass film. 

3 The Big Sick (Comedy Romance 2017 IMDB 7.8 1 Oscar Nomination.)

Pakistan-born comedian Kumail Nanjiani and grad student Emily Gardner fall in love but struggle as their cultures clash. When Emily contracts a mysterious illness, Kumail finds himself forced to face her feisty parents, his family's expectations, and his true feelings.

4 Everything Everything (2017 Drama Romance IMDB 6.4 Rotten 🍅 49)

Maddy (Amandla Stenberg) is a smart, curious and imaginative 18-year-old who is unable to leave the protection of the hermetically-sealed environment within her house because of an illness. Olly (Nick Robinson) is the boy next door who won't let that stop them from being together. Gazing through windows and talking only through texts, Maddy and Olly form a deep bond that leads them to risk everything to be together, even if it means losing everything. Not my favorite movie but a good watch never 

5 Titanic (1997 Drama Disaster IMDB 7.8 Rotten 🍅 88 14 Oscar Noms 11 Oscar wins) 

James Cameron's "Titanic" is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic; the pride and joy of the White Star Line and, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. And someone said this isn't the greatest movie ever made with a box office record of 2.8 billion like seriously? 

6 The Breakfast Club ( 1985 Drama Romance IMDB 7.9 Rotten 🍅 88)

Five high school students from different walks of life endure a Saturday detention under a power-hungry principal (Paul Gleason). The disparate group includes rebel John (Judd Nelson), princess Claire (Molly Ringwald), outcast Allison (Ally Sheedy), brainy Brian (Anthony Michael Hall) and Andrew (Emilio Estevez), the jock. Each has a chance to tell his or her story, making the others see them a little differently -- and when the day ends, they question whether school will ever be the same.

This one film with the most magic musical moment according to the guy in pitch perfect "the entire film was summarized in one soundtrack.

7 The Notebook (2004 Romance Drama IMDB 7.9 Rotten 🍅 52)

In 1940s South Carolina, mill worker Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and rich girl Allie (Rachel McAdams) are desperately in love. But her parents don't approve. When Noah goes off to serve in World War II, it seems to mark the end of their love affair. In the interim, Allie becomes involved with another man (James Marsden). But when Noah returns to their small town years later, on the cusp of Allie's marriage, it soon becomes clear that their romance is anything but over. This is a great movie guys 

8 The Theory Of Everything ( 2014 Drama Romance IMDB 7.7 Rotten 🍅 78 5 Oscar Nom 1 Win) 

In the 1960s, Cambridge University student and future physicist Stephen Hawking (Eddie Redmayne) falls in love with fellow collegian Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones). At 21, Hawking learns that he has motor neuron disease. Despite this -- and with Jane at his side -- he begins an ambitious study of time, of which he has very little left, according to his doctor. He and Jane defy terrible odds and break new ground in the fields of medicine and science, achieving more than either could hope to imagine. I still havent gotten to the end of this film not because it's not a great film but because it was too much for me.

9 The Fault In Our Stars (2014 Drama Romance IMDB 7.9 Rotten 🍅 80)

Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley), a 16-year-old cancer patient, meets and falls in love with Gus Waters (Ansel Elgort), a similarly afflicted teen from her cancer support group. Hazel feels that Gus really understands her. They both share the same acerbic wit and a love of books, especially Grace's touchstone, "An Imperial Affliction" by Peter Van Houten. When Gus scores an invitation to meet the reclusive author, he and Hazel embark on the adventure of their brief lives. I cried my eyes out guys. 

10 Romeo + Juliet (1996  Romance Drama IMDB 6.8 Rotten 🍅 78)

Baz Luhrmann helped adapt this classic Shakespearean romantic tragedy for the screen, updating the setting to a post-modern city named Verona Beach. In this version, the Capulets and the Montagues are two rival gangs. Juliet (Claire Danes) is attending a costume ball thrown by her parents. Her father Fulgencio Capulet (Paul Sorvino) has arranged her marriage to the boorish Paris (Paul Rudd) as part of a strategic investment plan. Romeo attends the masked ball and he and Juliet fall in love. What's love without the ultimate Love story of all times.

11 Sunset Boulevard (1950 Drama IMDB 8.5 #54 of Top Rated) Rotten 🍅 89. 11 Oscar Noms 4 Oscar Wins) 

An aging silent film queen refuses to accept that her stardom has ended. She hires a young screenwriter to help set up her movie comeback. The screenwriter believes he can manipulate her, but he soon finds out he is wrong. The screenwriters ambivalence about their relationship and her unwillingness to let go leads to a situation of violence, madness, and death.

This Weeks Wild Card Entry is yet another BLACK AND WHITE FILM you must see.
